studio time

Working in the studio with my friend, Mary. I'm trying to do some embroidery with human hair (clean) but having a difficult time knotting it off. Did I happen to mention my piece is a hand-painted silk apron. Meanwhile, Mary is struggling with sewing on binding. Any advice for us?

sewing/creative

I have this wild idea (really not my own, my husband saw it in an investment periodical), about opening a retail/studio space that supports the creative sewer. I see it as a place where lessons are offered in sewing and surface design (on fabric), machines are avaliable for sale or rent, studio space is offered and notions and fabric are for sale.
What is the response to this idea, and is Grand Rapids, MI large enough to support this type of center?

Presently, I'm teaching sewing lessons at Smith Owens Sewing Center on Tuesday evenings if anyone is interested. I'm encouraging students to take apart old clothing to create new garments. One student has brought in old table clothes, great with old jeans! Interested, call Smith Owens.
